Fine Art - BA (Hons)
Give us a brief overview of your project
My provocatively named pieces fall into the art movement of Found Object. I revive discarded material I discover, placing them in abstract compositions and experimenting with space during my laborious creation process. These topical sculptures draw attention to issues, such as the energy and cost of living crisis. My performative art is deeply influenced by my home city. I regularly absorb and document the visuals of Birmingham as a source of inspiration. This is enriched by the fact I use materials that often highlights the deeper history of the city.
Why did you choose this concept?
I enjoy creating works of arts from things that have been thrown away or abandoned, trying to elevate and give new meaning to what others see as rubbish is of interest to me.
What processes have you been using?
Painting, sculpting, walking, welding are some of the processes i have been using.
What do you hope to achieve with your project?
I hope to get people thinking about the materials and objects I have used and how wasteful we are as a society.
How has your course helped you to prepare for working on your project?
My tutors have been extremely supportive and critical about what I have made and have made me question everything and really analyse what it is that I am doing and why I am doing it. The workshops/gallery and studio space have been influential as I can try out different things and setup my work in different spaces which is vital.
