Second year BA (Hons) Media and Communication (Music Industries) student came third in the Wilko Johnson Writing Awards 2015 , a music writing contest organised by Louder Than Words Festival

This year's edition of the Wilko Johnson Writing Award asked the contestants to write a 350 word piece on the subject of free music and its meaning for the industries. Tanyel Gumushan admits that the task was quote though as no specific direction were given and she even hesitated telling anyone about the Award and her participation. She was happy to get all the support and appreciation from her uni once the winners were announced and she has found herself amongst them:

Tanyel's passion for media and music have inspired her to become part of the Seed Creative Network in Leicester when she was 15 years old, where she worked on creating a database of musicians based in East Midlands. Later she wrote for the From Dusk 2 Dawn magazine and starter her own music blog, Music Take A Bow

Later she did placements with PSNEurope and Music Week in London, from where the editor recommended her to The National Student, for which Tanyel now acts as a music editor and contributor. She has also created a record label when she started her degree at the University:
