Sisters Tanyel and Yasemin Gumushan are second year BA (Hons) Media and Communication students at the University and also, identical twins. Tanyel has recently shared her experience of having "an identical self" with The Guardian.
"Growing up, my sister Yasemin and I have always been the best of friends. Throughout school we were encouraged to work together, the words 'complementary skills' were thrown around, and everybody saw double and enjoyed our cute unique selling point.", says Tanyel in her Guardian article Twins at uni: we look alike, but we're very different people.
The sisters from Leicester are enrolled on the same course at the University, only Tanyel is specialised in Music Industries, while Yasemin has chosen to specialise in Public Relations. They did share core modules on their course but haven't faced any issues from being identical twins. Tanyel believes that people's preconceptions and the existing stereotypes about twins shouldn't keep anyone from fulfilling their dreams:
She ended up her article by asking herself if going to different universities and not living together would have been a better life choice for her and Yasemin: " Would I be more confident, or more homesick? Have more friends, or be completely on my own? I’d miss her, that’s for sure."
