Brahms Violin Sonata No.1*
Schumann Piano Quartet
Immerse yourself in a concert of chamber music at its finest. This is a chance to hear Schumann’s Piano Quartet – less well known than his Piano Quintet written in the same year, yet it’s a sheer delight. The excitement of the outer movements contrast with a mercurial scherzo and the glorious melody of the Andante.
Brahms’s First Violin Sonata is also one of the great works for this combination. Composed alongside the Violin Concerto, it has more than its fair share of melody (it was inspired by one of his songs to a poem by his friend Klaus Groth) as well as passion, suspense and beauty.
Running time approx.55 minutes
