Supporting Birmingham Conservatoire Students for 30 Years
Birmingham Conservatoire Association (BCA) is a subscription based charitable organisation that is open to anyone to join. BCA is a registered charity (No. 1067676) which supports the work of Birmingham Conservatoire. Established in 1981 as the Birmingham School of Music (BSM) Association, the membership consists of alumni, current and former members of staff, parents, friends and all those wishing to support the Association's objectives.
Honorary members include Honorary Fellows, as well as those individuals on whom an Honorary Fellowship or Honorary Doctorate of Birmingham City University / Birmingham Conservatoire has been conferred.
BCA's stated aim is to "advance the education of the students of Birmingham Conservatoire in music and subjects related thereto" (Constitution para.2). In practice, this means BCA is able to offer advice to students and, by means of member's subscriptions, give students some financial assistance in the pursuit of their studies. Examples of such support include
- an annual Undergraduate Welcome
- the CBSO Learning and Participation Programme
- donations to individual students for the purchase of instruments
BCA jointly produces a newsletter with the Conservatoire, Fanfare, which members receive free of charge, and has worked with the University's Alumni Association to organise several alumni reunion events.
