Overview

The MSc Applied Metaverse and Digital Leadership course is designed to meet the industry need to develop leadership and practical skills of those at the vanguard of digital technology and expose you to the pioneering concept of immersive technologies such as virtual, augmented and extended realities.

The Metaverse is a virtual shared space where users can interact with each other in real time. It is a collective virtual environment that encompasses virtual and augmented reality and the internet.

The Metaverse is being used more and more by companies to enhance co-operation, undertake virtual commerce, create immersive brand engagement, host virtual events and experiences and train staff through simulation.

This course is open to International students.

Our MSc course in Applied Metaverse and Digital Leadership has been designed to meet the industry need for the development of skilled practitioners as well as managers and leaders at the cutting edge of the technology world.

The Metaverse is being used by more and more companies to:

As a student you will be exposed to the cutting-edge world of immersive technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality. You will develop the knowledge and skills to create immersive simulations and interactive virtual worlds preparing you for employment in countless industries that exist now or will be developed in the future from these technologies.

The course additionally aims to give you the skills not only to be developers but also the leaders and managers of the future. The focus on digital leadership will develop your management skills and knowledge of managing innovation and entrepreneurship, strategic management and leadership.

Entry Requirements

Essential requirements

An honours degree from a British University or equivalent institution (minimum 2:2). Your degree can be in any field - whatever your background, this course will enable you to become a digital leader with business acumen and technological understanding.

You may be able to access advanced entry into the Diploma stage if you have successfully undertaken study of a broadly similar level to the Certification stage modules.

EU and International

As above plus IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5. minimum in all bands.

Access to computer equipment

You will require use of a laptop, and most students do prefer to have their own. However, you can borrow a laptop from the university or use one of our shared computer rooms.

Printing

You will receive £5 print credit in each year of your course, available after enrolment.

Field trips

All essential field trips and associated travel costs will be included in your course fees.

Access to Microsoft Office 365

Every student at the University can download a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 to use whilst at university and for 18 months after graduation.

Key software

You will be able to download SPSS and Nvivo to your home computer to support with your studies and research.

Key subscriptions

Subscriptions to key journals and websites and available through our library.

Excess printing (optional)

Once you have spent your £5 credit, additional printing on campus costs from 5p per sheet.

Books (optional)

Some modules may suggest that you purchase a key textbook. All module key texts will be in the University library, but in limited numbers. Many students choose to purchase a copy.

Employability

Graduates from management, business or marketing degrees will find that the course provides ideal preparation for leading projects involving building an immersive world for company's clients.

Those with degrees in computer science, information technology, game design, or a related field could progress into roles that involve overseeing developing metaverses with a knowledge of commercial scalability and acquired digital leadership skills.

The Curzon Building

This course is based at our City Centre Campus – and specifically The Curzon Building, alongside other Social Sciences, Law and Business students.

The £63m building offers students a unique social learning space, including a dedicated student hub incorporating student support services, in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside development.

The Business floors house an extensive number of IT facilities, breakout areas, and specialised rooms. The Marketing Link Agency is designed to replicate a modern marketing firm, allowing students to get real-life experience of working in the marketing sector. There is also the City Trading Room, which features state of the art stock market tracking equipment, keeping you up to date with all the financial comings and goings of the London Stock Exchange and Wall Street.

The Curzon building is also conveniently close to Birmingham’s business and financial centre, allowing for strong links between your studies and the real world.
