Industry
Collaborating with the Birmingham School of Architecture can instil the latest knowledge and skills into your business. The school is at the heart of the regional architectural community, providing useful expertise to industry and engaging in investigative projects.
Students and academic staff collaborate with industry in a number of key ways:
Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
A KTP allows businesses to learn from the latest research and industry developments in an affordable way. With your specific business aims in mind, we will assign a KTP associate to your business. The Associate will embed their skills and knowledge into your company, supported by an expert member of staff.
CO.LAB Elective
CO.LAB (Collaborative + Practice Lab) is an innovative teaching module combining undergraduate and postgraduate students together working on various projects. CO.LAB is a vehicle for a range of projects that seek to directly engage students with the dynamic context of the city. It is an opportunity for students to work with individuals and groups outside of their discipline area, engaging in a broad creative network.
Live Projects
These projects aim to provide students with real-life learning experience in the industry, collaborating or consulting with an external client. They vary in scale and outcome, from practical completion to public consultation. Where possible, many of the projects are integrated as part of teaching modules.
Student Engagement
The school offers a unique collaborative 'Teaching Practice' programme on the M.Arch Architecture course. In addition to the academic studio teaching, each unit is aligned with a leading professional practice in the region where students can visit on selected days for supporting tutorials. Participating practices include: Bryant Priest Newman, K4 Architects, Make, D5 Architects and Glenn Howells Architects. Please view the M.Arch course page for more information.
Willmott Dixon, appointed contractor of the new BIAD city centre campus, provides a rolling programme of visits to the construction site. These visits provide students valuable information and first-hand experience on site. You can see a live web-cam feed of the building progress on Plot 35.
