Technical description: Ebony square shape frog with pearl eye and long gold ferrule, pearl inset and gold back plate. One-piece gold button.

The date of the bow is definitely pre-1878 (in 1878, his branding changed to JAS. TUBBS). Typical chocolate-brown varnish. Modern-style head with gold face.
