Dr Kathleen Maitland is the Director of the SAS Student Academy for UK and Ireland at Birmingham City University which she developed and now runs. Initially, Kathy took the SAS technical lead role where she installed as well as taught SAS as part of the Master's curriculum before extending this role to academic lead.

In this post she created CORE, a new type of degree which was instantiated in the MSc Business Intelligence. In 2012, Kathy became the director of the SAS Student Academy. Kathy has worked for Birmingham City University since 2001 when she completed her doctorate in Information Systems Evolution and during that time has developed many courses and held many course directorships.

Kathy has always had an interest in requirements engineering and for several years was the Vice-Chair of the BCS Requirements Engineering Group (RESG). Kathy worked as a consultant systems analyst taking commercial contracts in software systems development that spanned commercial databases and new product development.

Prior to that she worked in the defence industry where she worked on command and control systems and specialised in RTS and simulation kinematic modelling from a computing perspective. Kathy returned to academia where her interests in mathematics lead to a project in fuzzy logic and other non-classical logical systems, which enabled her to extend her interest in data analytics.
