Before Lynn joined Birmingham City University in 2000, she worked in sixth form and further education in Sandwell and Birmingham. She began as a teacher of English and became involved in careers and pastoral care before becoming the Director of Sixth Form Centre in a large inner-city further education college.
Shortly after joining the University, Lynn became course director for PGCE Primary and, in 2005, course director for BA Primary Education. In 2007, she took on the role of Deputy Head of School until November 2010 when she became Associate Dean: Student Experience and Quality Assurance in the Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences.
In September 2014 she became Associate Dean (Student Learning Experience and Quality) in the newly formed Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.
