Looking for a place to let loose? Birmingham’s music scene is thriving with different venues, all diverse and unique in terms of sound and atmosphere.

Located all around Birmingham, these venues can offer you a great way to explore the city and meet new people outside of the University walls. Here’s a list of some of the most popular destinations in the city at the moment.

O2 Institute

If you’re a person who enjoys finding new artists, the O2 institute is the place for you. Known for its support of up and coming artists from across the globe, it provides a diverse and unique sound which you can’t find anywhere else. Tickets seldom exceed £30, making it both an affordable and an enjoyable destination.

Barclaycard Arena

This is the ultimate destination in Birmingham to see the most popular and outstanding acts; from artists such as Justin Bieber to Korn, Barclaycard really does have something for everyone. As it is located so close to Birmingham’s city centre, the night doesn’t have to end as there are a variety of clubs and restaurants to choose from nearby. However, get tickets fast as depending on the artist tickets tend to sell out rapidly.

The Sunflower Lounge

Home to the alternative crowd, this is more for those who enjoy a wild and loud atmosphere. Its distinctive vibe and décor makes it a stand out destination for those who want to break away from the mainstream lifestyle. In terms of food and alcohol, its relatively cheap prices won’t put too much of a dent in the uni funds.

The Asylum

If you’re not a fan of the modern pop world, The Asylum can offer you a grungier, rock and roll alternative. Providing a rare experience for its crowd, it’s a great place to meet new people and really let go. With past shows including Of Mice and Men and The Story So Far, you’ll truly be able to discover the perfect rock sound for you.

Hare and Hounds

Although not located near city central, the Hare and Hounds is still an extremely popular venue. Suitable for almost all music tastes, it might be the ultimate spot for friends whose preferences slightly differ. Its high quality food and drink make it appropriate for both the day time and night life.
