Are you coming to Birmingham this June?

We’re here to let you know everything you can be getting up to over the next four weeks.

We've got all the information for the summers first wave of festivals, as well as an extensive gig guide, so you won't miss a thing!

Festivals

Kicking off 2017's summer music festivals, the Supersonic Festival is the UK's biggest and best experimental music celebration. What it lacks in marquee names, it makes up for in originality and uniqueness - no two sets are the same with such an eclectic line up of acts. The entire festival takes place at the Custard Factory in Digbeth, and runs between June 16 - 18.

On the same weekend, we also see the Summer in Southside festival take over the Hippodrome Theatre. A collection of street performers, music and food, the theme this year is the great outdoors. Expect dog shows, farm fresh foods, and a host of nature themed performances.

The month closes out with two of Birmingham's most famous districts putting on unique experiences. Brindley Place is one of cities top nightlife spots, boasting great restaurants, bars, and dragons. And no that is not a typo. On June 24, if you look out the window of the Slug and Lettuce or Pitcher and Piano, you might just see a Dragonboat sail buy, as teams from all over the city compete in the annual boat race in support of Cure Leukaemia.

And right at the end of the month on June 30, we'll see the Colmore Food Festival take over Victoria Square with food from all corners of the globe. Colmore Row is known as the legal centre of the city, and as legal firms are prone to doing, they have set one rule for the festival - all dishes are capped at £4! A 5 course meal for £20 sounds like a good deal to us!

Birmingham City University

We have a massive month coming up at BCU, centred around the first of our 2017 Open Days on Saturday June 17. Looking to have one more look around our campus ahead of starting with us in September? Or looking to get a head start on your University journey in 2018? Either way, register for our Open Day today!

Rethink 2017 on June 13 is BCU's one day conference for digital media professionals, which will include talks by industry leaders, insightful panel discussions and fantastic networking opportunities. Our School of Social Sciences will also be hosting a talk the following day, entitled "Steroid Use and Public Health", which will look to improve knowledge of, communication with and engagement with steroid and other image enhancing drugs (SIED) users.

Classical music lovers will also want to check out the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra on June 23. In the final orchestral concert of the year, the ensemble will be playing Mahler's Symphony No. 5, alongside brand new music from two senior Conservatoire students.

On Saturday June 10, we'll also be throwing our doors open for the Inspired Festival's Family Day, an action packed day of free, fun-filled events and activities for the whole family.

The Inspired Festival, which runs between June 12 and 23, is a showcase of all the excellent work of our Faculty of Art, Design and Media, and is just one of several shows highlighting our graduating students work this June. Here is the full list.
