Jonathan started out at Birmingham City University as a student on the BA (Hons) Media & Communication course. Since graduating in 2015, he has worked as a Content Author for Spark44; updating content for Jaguar Land Rover. Following this, Jonathan spent a year working in Student Affairs (Services) as an Operations Administrator; supporting the daily facilitation of the department, in addition to helping manage DLHE (Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey), Meet & Greet and International Orientation Week.
Since mentoring and leading a team of Birmingham City University students to fundraise £3,000 each and climb up Mount Kilimanjaro for charity as Student Challenge Leader, Jonathan has always had a passion to support and engage students. That’s why since November 2016, he has been working as a Student Success Adviser for the School of Visual Communication, responsible for supporting students’ retention and engagement and monitoring attendance, whist acting as a bridge between academics, other students and support services.

Your Student Success Adviser is available to offer guidance to ensure that you have the opportunity to complete your degree to the best of your ability. The range of available support includes everything from advising on financial hardship, mental health support, essay writing skills, internal employment opportunities, fulfilling your academic potential and connecting with students on other courses to promote your creative and critical work.
Bingna, who came to study from China, is currently studying on the BA (Hons) Illustration course. Her hobbies include drawing, cooking, running and also has some volunteering experience too. If you have any problems, or just want to find someone to talk to, you can get in touch with Bingna.
Jennifer Mae Spooner is a third year BA (Hons) Illustration student. During her time studying, Jennifer has used many of the facilities available at the University and also became the founder and previous president of the BCU Illustration Society. Jennifer is easy-going and will be happy to help you with any questions you may have about your course, University life, and more.
Yasmin is a third year BA (Hons) Graphic Communication student. Her interests mainly involve incorporating fashion photography within her graphic design work, as well as finding new places to eat! She’s friendly and easy to talk to, so feel free to approach her for a chat.
Oliver is currently a third year BA (Hons) Illustration student who formerly studied BA (Hons) Graphic Communication. He will be able to answer any queries that you may have, whether this is how get involved with societies, talking about what you want to do through being at University or just general enquiries about your course.
Vasco, who comes from Portugal, is a second-year student on the BA (Hons) Design for Performance course. He enjoys multimedia art and video games. Vasco will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Every student at the School is allocated a personal tutor during the first few weeks at University. The personal tutor will be a member of your teaching team who can be approached for personal and professional advice during your time at Birmingham City University. Timetabled one-to-ones with them are integrated into every term and, of course, you are more than welcome to approach any of the team if you have a question or worries. If you are unsure who your personal tutor is please speak to your lead tutor.
