Andy Pilsbury

Andy has worked at BCU as a Senior Technician within Photography since 2012. He oversees the running of the Photographic Studios, Processing Room, and Analogue Darkroom along with providing workshops and training for BA and MA students. He has a broad and varied skillset ranging from studio practice, camera and lighting techniques with experience in areas such as portraiture, editorial, advertising and product. Andy is adept at both digital and analogue processes including analogue printing methods, alternative processes, bookmaking, scanning and related software. Andy completed his MA in Visual Communication (Photography) in 2016.

Andy currently works part time at BCU, Wednesday to Friday and for the remainder of the week freelances and pursues his own creative projects. He has collaborated with artisans, design agencies, brands, NGOs and business from the UK and beyond covering editorial commissions to nationwide billboard campaigns for brands such as eBay and The Gaia Foundation. His work has been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally including Marie Claire, Creative Review, Hodder & Stoughton, The Telegraph, New York Times, Revolution Magazine, and Esquire. Selected exhibitions include ‘Still: Stories from the Jewellery Quarter’, Birmingham, JVE Food Art Film Festival, Netherlands and FORMAT23, Derby.

Andy has a keen interest in the photobook as a medium for presenting ideas and projects. He has had work published by local Birmingham based publisher ‘Out of Place Books’ and has self-published a few of his projects using a variety of methods to present his work.
