Amy completed the direct entry Midwifery training at Birmingham City University some years ago, and has since worked as a full time midwife with University Hospitals Birmingham at the Heartlands site. Amy qualified as Health Visitor and Nurse Prescriber from Wolverhampton University in 2014 and has worked as a Health Visitor and more recently a Health Visitor Team Leader in the city of Wolverhampton.  Since qualifying, Amy has completed additional training in leadership, supervision and management, and more recently graduated with an MSc award in Primary Health Care. Since moving to education, Amy has maintained a bank contract at two local trusts and works weekly shifts as a health visitor managing a small inner city, corporate caseload.

Amy has supported teaching on all modules within both the long and shortened Midwifery degree programmes whilst completing the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, achieving teacher status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council .In February 2020, Amy moved to a new substantive role as Senior Lecturer within the Post Qualifying Healthcare Team teaching on the SCPHN course. Amy’s areas of expertise are community midwifery and more recently public health nursing.

Areas of interest are safeguarding, supervision and community development.  I have completed courses in mindfulness and leadership and am keen to develop practitioner resilience as part of preceptorship and clinical and restorative supervision practices. Amy is trained in the Solihull Approach and has completed the train the trainer course and regularly utilises the framework in clinical practice.

Prior to embarking on a career in healthcare, Amy completed a BSc in Human Psychology and worked in one of the early SureStart Centres in Birmingham managing a team of family support workers. Amy completed the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Leadership (NPQICL); a level 7 standalone qualification exploring multidisciplinary team leadership.
