Sam has been a cancer / haemato-oncology nurse for 18 years, having worked initially in Haemato-oncology and stem cell transplant, she then went on to become a Chemotherapy nurse trainer, responsible for the chemotherapy training and education of all nursing staff in a large teaching hospital trust. She then took on a Leukaemia Nurse Specialist role where she cared for and gave treatments to haemato-oncology patients in the community. After this, she became an Acute Oncology Nurse practitioner where she gained her assessment and prescribing qualifications, and undertook assessment and treatments of patients on various anti-cancer treatments, suffering from their side effects.

The last 3 years of her clinical career were as a Lead Chemotherapy Nurse of a large trust with 3 hospital sites, managing and delivering the chemotherapy service consisting of 3 outpatient units and a haemato-oncology ward.

Sam has worked at the university for over 9 years – initially in conjunction with her various clinical roles on a part time basis, but now works full time delivering a number of modules for the Professional Practice Programme as pathway leader for Haemato-oncology, and also teaches and supports on the Non-medical Prescribing Programme.
