Kidderminster Harriers Pre-Season Session

Kidderminster Harriers first team carry out pre-season session at City South Campus

The Kidderminster Harriers Football Club (KHFC) first team recently visited City South Campus for some pre-season training. This was a great opportunity for students in the Sports and Exercise Department to gain experience working with professional athletes, and also for KHFC to have access to our fantastic new equipment and advice from experienced tutors.

The pre-season session was designed to support the team’s preparation for the upcoming season and included a variety of activities - V02 max testing, a nutrition and cooking workshop, a sports therapy session, and fitness testing. Sport Science and Skill Acquisition have become demanding factors within professional football clubs to achieve greater performance and developmental outcomes.

Whilst KHFC are a professional football club competing in the National League North, when compared to the facilities, monetary outlay and human resources available to other clubs in England in the Premier League and Championship, achieving all these supporting variables is more of a challenge. However, our partnership with the club has created greater opportunities for them, as they can access our cutting-edge facilities and top academics to thoroughly prepare them to the very best standards.

This pre-season session not only provided information and support to the players and staff, but also work-based learning and research opportunities for our students and staff.
