Birmingham City University’s School of Education and Social Work have this week welcomed officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Education as part of a three-week tour of the UK.
The Director of Primary Education for Indonesia, Dra. Poppy Dewi Puspitawati is accompanying a group of 10 award-winning primary school teachers from across Asian country. The delegation comprises experts in their field who have been recognised by the Indonesian Government for their achievements in teaching.
The group are attending a week-long training programme (from Monday 14 – Friday 18 December) at the University’s School of Education and Social Work, where they are learning more about the primary education system in the UK, as well as the differences between teaching in the UK and in Indonesia.
“During this week, we’ve explored how, as a University, we work with policy and how we then use that to then inform the training of teachers. Of particular interest for our overseas colleagues has been how we work in partnerships with schools. Therefore, it has been valuable as part of their week-long programme that we’ve had input from our teaching school alliances, as well as taking the delegation on visits to partner schools.
“We sincerely hope that this visit will be the start of a dialogue to explore potential opportunities for the University to work with colleagues more closely in Indonesia.”
As part of the visit, the group also visited the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Ray Hassall.
