International partner institutions

China

The School of Education has partnerships with Shenyang Normal University, Liaoning Jiangnan University, Wuxi and SiChuan University, Chengdu in mainland China to facilitate staff exchanges, collaborative research projects, opportunities for students to undertake international study and the development of greater cultural understanding between China and the UK.

We also have progression agreements with Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University (JSTNU) and Henan Normal University (HNU) and Shenyang Normal University (SNU) to move onto our MA Education or our MA International Education programmes.

We have also trained over 700 teachers in Henan province in China since 2007 as part of a successful English Language, Culture and Pedagogy summer school programme developed in partnership with the Luohe Bureau of Education.

Egypt

Our reputation for excellence has reached the Egyptian Ministry of Education, which has asked us to provide teacher training.

Our work there is based on a strategy known as the Teachers’ Inward Mission, which is part of a National Strategy to develop the skills and understanding of Egyptian teachers of mathematics and English.

Two cohorts (2008/09 and 2009/10) of Egyptian teachers participated in our professional development courses and spent time in local schools, observing and helping class teachers. They used their experiences to inform the Egyptian government, which was establishing a national drive to raise education standards.
