Fungisai Mushawa

Fungisai qualified as a social worker in 1990 and has worked as a social worker in generic, rehabilitation, hospice and local authority settings. Fungisai has worked as a Child Protection Social Worker, Fostering Social Worker, Independent Social Worker and as a Team Manager in these settings. She has also worked as an Independent Reviewing Officer. Prior to joining Birmingham City University, Fungisai was working as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at Nottingham Trent University. She was also involved in Success for All projects and providing pastoral care to students. 

Academic and research interests have been drawn from these experiences and Fungisai is currently undertaking research on parenting practices amongst Black Sub-Saharan African Communities. She also has interests in fostering, child protection and issues affecting people from Black communities. She has co-published articles in this area. 

Fungisai is a qualified Practice Educator and has supported students on placement in practice.
