Emmet Byrne

Emmet Byrne is from Waterford, Ireland and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. After graduating in 2003, he gained a scholarship from the German Government (DAAD), enabling him to pursue postgraduate studies at the Hochschule fur Musik in Cologne.

Emmet has been Principal Second Oboe with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since 2013. Highlights with the CBSO include the tours to Asia and Europe and the Beethoven Cycle in Bonn with Andris Nelsons.

He has freelanced with many of the UK and Ireland's leading orchestras and ensembles, including the BBC Philharmonic, Halle Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia and both RTE Orchestras in Dublin. Emmet was an oboe tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music Junior department between 2007 and 2013.

As soloist, in addition to numerous recitals, he has appeared with Camerata Ireland in Penderecki's Capriccio for oboe and strings with Penderecki conducting.
