David was born in Wolverhampton and went straight into industry after leaving school. He worked in a variety of industrial sales roles for local companies including City Electrical Factors and Newey and Eyre, both electrical distributors.

Deciding that he wanted to work for a manufacturer he joined an American company, AMF Venner Paragon as a UK regional sales manager. Within a year he was offered the opportunity to move to the USA to work at their head office in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He quickly rose to become the regional sales manager for a territory stretching from Chicago to Hawaii before getting the chance to work on new product development.

When the company went through a leveraged buyout and the majority of staff were made redundant, he decided to go to university in America. He completed his first degree in Economics, Business and Geography and decided to stay on to study for an MBA. He eventually ended up living in America for seven years. When he returned to the UK he took a job at a higher education college in Lancashire where he wrote their first degree in Business.

He has worked in higher education for over 20 years. He keeps up to date with marketing through consultancy and is currently studying for an MA in Online and Distance Education.
