Joel Blackledge

Joel Blackledge is an M4C-funded doctoral researcher examining the moving image media of the internet and its relation to cinema history. He is interested in histories of film style and technologies, and in the role of film practice to narrate them.

Joel has previously worked for many years in media arts education, including as Course Director for the Media (Top-Up) BA at Coventry University.

As a filmmaker, he has partnered with clients including the University of Birmingham, and screened his work at venues including London Short Film Festival, the BFI Flare Library, and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, where his documentary Bullring Voices sits in the permanent collection.

He also produces videographic film scholarship and criticism, including for the food publication Vittles.
