University documentary shortlisted for international award

A documentary produced by a member of staff from Birmingham City University has been named as one of the finalists in the 2014 New York Radio Festival.

‘Let’s Dance at 30’, a documentary by senior lecturer in radio Sam Coley from the School of Media, is shortlisted in the Best Music Special category. Birmingham City University is the only university in the country to make the shortlist.

Entries from over 30 countries will be judged by an international jury, with the winners set to be announced on Monday 23 June at the Manhattan Penthouse.

The hour long documentary was broadcast on Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s and Absolute Classic Rock to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s album 'Let's Dance'.

The documentary is part of an ongoing research project into music documentaries for radio.
