A group of School of English students took part in a storytelling workshop that was held as part of the Reading Art Project.
As part of the Reading Art Project a free storytelling workshop was held for Birmingham City University’s School of English students at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday 15 March 2016.
Students from across a variety of routeways and year groups attended the event from 2pm – 5pm.
The event was run by professional storyteller Dawn Powell and explored the ways in which the stories of paintings in the Pre-Raphaelite galleries can be told to children.
Dawn led students through methods of storytelling, and then gave an example of a story she formulated by looking at one painting.
Jennifer Walsh, an English Literature, second year student attended the event. She was thoroughly impressed with the event.
Students were given the chance to work in small groups of 2-3 in order to develop their own stories. These groups of students have been invited back to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for an event where they can tell their stories to children visiting the galleries over the Easter holidays.
Additionally, five public talks have been scheduled for April and all take place at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. There is no need to book in advance for these events and each talk will last for around an hour, including time for questions. The details for these events can be found on the Reading Art website.
