In anticipation of the Super Bowl on 13th February, here’s a roundup of the best venues for your late-night sports fest, plus some ideas of how you can mark the occasion at home.
Walkabout Super Bowl party
Serving up all the action live from Los Angeles is Walkabout bar, a buzzing Aussie-inspired bar in the heart of Birmingham. The game will be shown live on big screen TVs, but things don't end there. With a half time show of their own, competitions, giveaways and delicious comfort food on offer, there are few better places to watch.
Head over to Bierkeller where their in-house sports bar, Shooters, is known for being one of the best venues in town to watch the Super Bowl. They're promising an all-night watching party, where punters will be fed and watered with burgers and buckets of beer. What more could you want?
The Church Inn
The Church Inn (of the Jewellery Quarter) is bringing all the spirit of the Super Bowl with a late kitchen, late bar and big screens along with some giant foam fingers.
Word on the street is that Kilder (the bar next to, and owned by the same people of, Original Patty Men) have been known to show the Super Bowl, though full details for this year are yet to be confirmed. Check back for more nearer the time for details of the ultimate Super Bowl experience: one of Birmingham's best O.P.M burgers followed by a night of sport at Kilder next door.
Fancy staying in?
Since it's bound to be a late one, you might prefer to watch from the comfort of your sofa, where the snacks and drinks are all within reach and there's no queue for the loo. Good news! The Super Bowl will be shown live on BBC One from 11:30pm (likely running until around 3am), and you can also stream the game live on BBC iPlayer via a host of devices including smartphones and tablets.
You could always call upon Birmingham's local breweries to provide your beverages and mark this huge sporting occasion. Both the Birmingham Brewing Company and Two Towers Brewery offer free delivery to Birmingham postcodes (minimum spends apply) so you can kick back, drink in hand, and enjoy the game in style.
