The Success course
If you’re about to start your degree, the Success course is a great introduction to University study and what to expect, as well as offering guidance on academic writing and maths skills. Designed to help students make the transition into University and developed by the Centre for Academic Success, it offers a grounding in University expectations and skills that will help you throughout your studies.
The course will be available to all Birmingham City University students from the beginning of the academic year, and is free to use. Find out more on the Centre for Academic Success website.
We hold confidential one-to-one tutorials using email or live video, whichever you prefer, where you can discuss your academic work with a focus on academic writing, referencing, maths and other study skills. We also offer specialist English language tutorials to non-native English speakers. Tutorials can be booked up to two weeks in advance.
Centre for Academic Success workshops are available throughout the academic year from our website, covering topics such as academic writing, English language, critical analysis, presentation skills, writing dissertations, time management, exam preparation, and maths and statistics. We hope to also be able to offer some on-campus classes.
The workshop schedule will be available on our webpages during the semester.
A wide range of study guides are available, providing you with information about academic writing, study skills, maths, statistics and grammar.
