Disabled students' Welcome Day

Get a head start at university! Our Welcome Day for new disabled students is your opportunity to find out all the crucial stuff that you'll need to know for your first few weeks and months at university.

During the day there will be workshops, an information fair and opportunities to meet other new students.

The topics we usually aim to cover include:

  • Information about the Disability Support Team and how we can help
  • An overview of other services on offer at the University
  • Information about Disabled Students’ Allowances and the opportunity to ask questions about setting up your support
  • A workshop on the transition to university
  • Information about useful apps and software which will help with your organisation, time management and study.

The day normally starts at 10am and finishes at around 3pm (or whenever you have collected as many freebies as you can at the information fair!), and includes hot drinks, a lunch voucher to use on campus, as well as an information fair in the afternoon where you can meet a range of services from across the University!

This year’s Welcome Day is back on campus as an in-person event. Disabled applicants will be notified when booking opens. If you have any questions about the event, please email disability@bcu.ac.uk.

Student feedback from previous Welcome Days:

"The friendliness of the staff organising the event, having such a welcoming glow on everyone's faces, really allowed the new students to feel relaxed.”

"Thank you very much for such a fabulous day."

"Very informative ... It really made things more clear for me to understand…Seeing the staff helped it made me put a name to the face...I enjoyed the tour and it was a great stepping stone towards my future at BCU."

If you have questions about the Welcome Day, or about disability support at Birmingham City University in general, please email the disability support team.
