How to make the most of a Virtual Open Day
Our on-campus Open Days have been put on pause, but we have a whole wealth of knowledge and information available to you through our Virtual Open Day.
Don’t panic if you didn’t make it to one of our Open Days before lockdown started. We know that you’ll still be just as keen to look around.
What is a virtual open day?
Our Virtual Open Days are designed to give you personalised information about your chosen subject area, where you can hear from tutors and see our campus and facilities in more detail. There will be opportunities for you to get all your key accommodation, finance and admissions questions answered. As well as the chance to hear what student life at BCU and in Birmingham is like. We will give you the full BCU Open Day experience but from the comfort of your own home.
How should I prepare for the Virtual Open Day?
Similar to a regular Open Day, you will get the most out of it if you have a think about what questions you need answers to. Open Days are the opportunity to see what universities have to offer and which course suits your needs the most. Here are a few key things to think about along with an overview of what you’ll learn about them on the day:
On the day an academic will give an insight into what you’ll get up to studying on your chosen course, how you’ll be taught and the facilities you will be using. This is a great way to get to know who will be teaching you, what your study hours will be and the type of work you will be producing during your course.
There will be a dedicated Personal Statement session to help you get to grips with your application. In the meantime, we also have a Personal Statement guide available to download to help you get on track with your application.
All of our course pages break down the modules across each year, as well as explaining the structure of the course and assessment methods. Any accreditations will be listed on our course pages, alongside entry requirements, fees, employability prospects and the facilities and staff associated with the course. This is a great way to read up on the courses you are interested in before the Open Day.
You will have access to virtual tours on the day, as well as extensive photo galleries of the facilities that you’ll have access to during your time with us. We’ve invested £340 million in our facilities to ensure that you have access to industry-standard equipment. Our Virtual Open Day allows you to take a look around the campus where you'll be studying. If you have any questions about this you can just drop us a message on social media.
If you're considering moving out for university, you can find out more about what it's like to live in halls and what you can expect from our student vloggers. Our accommodation team will also be hosting a webinar which will feature an introduction talk, a Q&A session and the ability to ask ‘live’ questions throughout the day.
We have a whole range of on-campus and inner-city living, with various facilities and features – meaning we have something for everyone. Our detailed profiles of each accommodation will allow you to take the time to find out which is right for you.
We know that every student has different needs to enable them to succeed and flourish during their time at BCU. From disability and mental health support to CV and job interview training we ensure you have everything you need.
You can see what services and support we have available at our Virtual Open Day, where our Student Support team will introduce you to everything they offer, as both an applicant and what you can expect when you become a BCU student. The team will also be on hand to answer your personal questions or any concerns you may have throughout the day via Facebook Messenger.
On the day we will have a panel webinar and Q&A session covering everything from the loan process, budgeting at university and jobs available to you whilst studying. Our team of experts will cover it all and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Fees, funding and money management – we can help you get to grips with all of it. We offer a £1000 Meet or Beat Scholarship to help you along the way. We have a finance guide that you will be able to download, this will help you progress as you move through your application journey.
You will be able to view a panel session with our International team, who will cover international applications, fees and funding advice, visa and immigration steps as well as why students love to come and study in Birmingham.
You'll also be able to download your free guide to international study at BCU - you can discover Birmingham, find out more about finance, and learn about BCU and what we have to offer.
We will have our Student Union president and a current student on our Instagram profile throughout the day. They will be talking you through their personal experiences, the activities and events you can get involved with through the SU, as well as answering any general questions you may have about student life at BCU.
We will have a student life panel on our website alongside a whole host of written content and vlogs to get you ready for student life in Birmingham.
Even though you can’t visit Birmingham in the flesh at the moment we have so much information for you to look through and discover why we love our city so much. We cover food and drink, nightlife, shopping, sport and culture so that you can really see why student’s love living in the UK’s second city.
Hopefully, that’s plenty of food for thought to get you set up for attending our Virtual Open Day, but in case you’re still feeling a bit unsure we’ve rounded up the most commonly asked questions at our Open Days. This will give you all the info you need about course, facilities, accommodation, and more!
