Emily is a Senior Lecturer in Developmental and Educational Psychology. Emily’s doctoral thesis was entitled “Capturing Reading Strategies in Young children.”

This work examined the strategies applied by children during emergent reading and how they adapt to read a novel word. The thesis also assessed the methodological issues encountered when collecting data using a self-report method. Interesting patterns of strategy use were found, suggesting fluidity in in early readers.

Before joining Birmingham City University, Emily taught Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. Prior to this she worked as a research fellow at Nottingham Trent University on a project examining the use of personalised learning in the classroom through the use of ICT.
