Melindy’s main area of research focuses on the support within the community to encourage desistance from offending and substance misuse. Additionally, Melindy is a prison befriender for the New Bridge Foundation, a befriending service between members of the public and people in prison.

Melindy’s research and volunteering puts her in a prime position to share this knowledge with her students. As a lecturer, Melindy makes a difference in the lives of her students through enquiry-driven teaching and pastoral care. Melindy’s dedication to this has been acknowledged by her Dean’s Award for Excellent Contribution to the School of Sciences in 2018.
