Jay gained a BSc (Hons) in European Politics, Society and Economics from the University of Birmingham, and later earned an MA in Marketing from Keele University. Having worked for several SME and non-profit education organisations, he returned to academia to read for a PhD in Social Science at the Centre for Brexit Studies.

His research topic is 'Understanding Changing Voter Attitudes and Perceptions toward Brexit'. The primary research will incorporate mixed methodologies and the respondent sample will be drawn from across the social spectrum. This is in order to gain insight into the broad range of views concerning one of the most widely-discussed constitutional changes in British political history.

Outside of his doctoral study, Jay works as an editor for Make It Plain, a Birmingham-based political blog that explores the impact of Brexit and other political changes on BAME communities in the UK. He also occasionally works as a freelance writer within the independent film industry, and enjoys writing fiction and drama.
