Karen is an RMN and most of her roles post qualification were in community settings at both day hospitals, primary care teams and community mental health teams. Karen joined the university in 2004 as the Senior Lecturer for placement support and development for mental health and learning disability nursing. This role essentially covers all matters relating to practice placement and encompasses such things as student advice and support, facilitation of learning opportunities by seeking out new placements, liaison with practice partners, developmental projects enabling students to link theory to practice and quality monitoring and enhancement initiatives and protocols.
Karen has taught and assessed on a variety of the pre-registration modules. Karen is the NMC lead nurse for both post registration inter-professional mentorship courses that this university offers. Karen has collaborated on a number of partnership working initiatives which enhance the mentorship quality and therefore the learning milieu for student nurses.
