Mixing with gaming giants at Rezzed London

Rezzed

Rezzed, London’s biggest game event took place earlier this spring and students from the New Technology Institute were right in the middle of the action.

Senior Lecturer, Zuby Ahmed said

"Rezzed is great place for us to share information on the University’s Postgraduate Gamer Camp and undergraduate fast-track courses. We network, discuss programmes and of course see the latest games; so if you are like me (a huge gaming nut), then it’s superb!"

Rezzed brings together two worlds of gamers; those who pay to play and those who get paid when played and there’s plenty of opportunity to seek insider knowledge from the games creators. The Association of Interactive Entertainment (UKIE) hosted careers bars, and portfolio reviewers and recruiters  were all on hand to answer any questions our students had.

Students, industry and the public attended talks on how to develop games for the Nintendo Switch, how to get your first job in gaming, how to get funding and much more!  All this was extremely beneficial to those trying to break into the industry. Q&A sessions were also held with award winning BAFTA nominees such as Alec Holowka and Adam Saltsman, developer and publisher of ‘A Night in the Woods’.

Rezzed partnered with multiple leading game creators; PlayStation, XBOX and Nintendo to name a few. PlayStation developed a lot of interest as one particular discussion focussed on the ‘road to PlayStation 5’. Digital Foundry’s Rich Leadbetter and John Linneman discussed the next console arrival and whether we could expect retaliation.

The level of competition was high as gamers battled it out to reach high scores, seek out exclusive pre-releases, network with the creators and learn from the industry experts. In addition to looking forward at gaming trends and future careers there was also opportunity to revisit classic highlights with retro gaming.

Overall, students described the day as Incredible and informative. The event strongly enables development and coincides with the University’s aim of fast tracking student’s careers into the games industry.
