As part of BCU’s Environmental Plan, the University aims to measure the baseline of biodiversity on campus and develop a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP).

FPCR Environment and Design Ltd were appointed in April to support the University with this project. Since then, they have been undertaking ecological surveys of BCU sites and have started to develop a bespoke Biodiversity Action Plan.

Join us on Wednesday 21 July at 2pm to hear about the results of the surveys and how you can input into our Biodiversity Action Plan.

Oli and Sam from FPCR will present the key findings from the ecology surveys, which included:

  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
  • Bat Preliminary Roost Assessments
  • Breeding bird surveys
  • Static bat detector surveys
  • Invertebrate surveys

They will then share their initial ideas for the Biodiversity Action Plan, which will include actions related to:

  • Protecting and enhancing biodiversity, including opportunities to create new habitats and attract new species.
  • General grounds management and maintenance for biodiversity.
  • Ensuring that biodiversity is a key consideration in development projects.
  • Educating and engaging staff, students and the local community with outside spaces and biodiversity and increasing their connection to nature.
  • Monitoring biodiversity going forward and getting the BCU community involved in species surveys/monitoring.

You will then have the opportunity to ask questions and raise any initial suggestions you have.

Following the session, we will send out a questionnaire so that you can share your ideas for actions to include in our Biodiversity Action Plan.

Sign-up for the session on Microsoft Teams. If you can’t make it on 21 July but are interested in sharing your ideas, please complete this Form and we will send you the questionnaire after the session.
