Work Hard and Play Hard for Business School Students

University News Last updated 26 May 2011

First year Birmingham City Business School students Siara Hussain and Uzair Delair organised a student trip to Alton Towers on May 16th 2011, and made a sizeable charity donation in the process.

In true Business fashion, the students, who are both members of the Business School Student Council, negotiated a rate with Alton Towers for 55 students to attend, and used the discount to make their charity donation of almost £700.

Commenting on the event Siara said: “I am really pleased so many students took part, not only because we had a great day at the end of the first year of our studies, but also because we had the opportunity to contribute to society through the charity donation we will make”.

Associate Dean Paul Bowker commented “the students should be praised for the enterprising nature of this initiative. Not only did they organise an event for such a large number of people, they also had the initiative to approach Alton Towers and secure a discount. I hope they will continue to take advantage of the Business School’s extra-curricular activities whilst studying with us”

The event was attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students, some of whom were from outside the UK, and had their first taste of a theme park in the country. The students don’t plan on stopping there, and hope to organise more events for their fellow students whilst working with the Business School Student Council
