University Professors celebrate publishing success

Two Professors from Birmingham City Business School have received professional recognition for their research relating to health and safety management systems, for UK construction businesses.

Their academic paper reporting the research, authored by Professor David Edwards and Professor Gary Holt from the University’s Centre for Business, Innovation and Enterprise (CBIE) – along with co-authors Dr Riaz from the National University of Science and Technology in Pakistan and Professor Thorpe from Loughborough University – has been chosen as a Highly Commended Award Winner at the Emerald Literati Network Awards.

The paper, titled ‘Data Flow Analysis of Plant and Equipment Health and Safety Management’ was published in Emerald’s Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology, in June 2011. It described their process for analyzing plant and equipment Health and Safety management systems on UK construction sites, with a view to applying information and communication technology to them as an improvement mechanism.

Professor of Innovation in Machinery Management, Gary Holt said: “This really is welcome news and represents the second such accolade in the last year earned by CBIE, in recognition of its published research in leading, peer reviewed journals. It also demonstrates our Centre’s increasing international and collaborative research profile and given the practical nature of this study, the impact upon business of our work”.

Every year Emerald invites each journal’s Editorial Team to nominate what they believe to be that title’s Outstanding Paper and up to three Highly Commended papers from the previous 12 months.
