Riffs sounds off on the world of popular music

Birmingham City University launched its first postgraduate journal this year, focusing on the world of popular music.

Riffs: Experimental Writing on Popular Music released its first issue in February, with a second volume set for release in September. Riffs was established from a writing group in 2015 by Birmingham School of Media professor Nick Gebhardt, and offers students (whether they be undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD researchers) the chance to contribute written, audio and visual contributions that discuss the myriad realms of popular music.

The first issue included thought-provoking articles on subjects as diverse as grindcore and Bob Dylan's 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature. If you are interested in contributing to a future issue of Riffs, keep an eye on the Riffs website for future Calls for Proposals.
