Birmingham City University has announced a unique partnership with organisers of the city’s first urban greenfield music festival.
Beyond The Tracks will take place on the weekend of 15-17 September 2017 at Eastside Green on land owned by the University. Featuring iconic acts as diverse as Orbital, Leftfield, Ocean Colour Scene, The Editors, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Coral and Peter Hook. It will be Birmingham’s biggest inner city festival.
The partnership between Birmingham City University and Beyond the Tracks will offer a number of students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working at a major music festival to aid in their professional development.

“Many of the disciplines we excel in as a University – including visual communications, media production and journalism – are all vital elements that help plan, run and document a major music festival such as Beyond The Tracks. It is therefore fitting that the organisers are inviting our own students to be part of this huge event, allowing them to apply the skills gained during their studies at a festival on their home turf.
Beyond The Tracks is produced by the local promoters behind Moseley Folk Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul and Lunar Festival. They have promoted some of the biggest outdoor shows in the city including performances by Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Laura Marling, Johnny Marr, Bonobo, Levellers, The Proclaimers, Television and Super Furry Animals.
The new festival’s location adjacent to Eastside Park will be flanked by the exterior of the former Grade 1 listed Curzon Street station building, the oldest railway terminus in the world. A new future is scheduled for this building, as it is due to be incorporated in to the design of the station for the new High Speed Two (HS2) railway between Birmingham Curzon Street and London Euston, and due to open in 2026.
Beyond The Tracks will also feature live performances from Maximo Park, The Twang, Carl Barrat and The Jackals, Wild Beasts, Jagwar Ma and a DJ set from Faithless.
