Tessa Self

Tessa Self’s inspiration comes from her interest in femininity. She looks into all aspects of what it is to be feminine but focuses on the feminine form. Her pieces are all unique hand-embroidered pendants.

Tessa’s observational life drawings of women are manipulated in Photoshop utilising repetition as a favoured technique to create alluring patterns. She uses the repeating patterns created to print onto textiles such as silk, taffeta and cotton using a predominately pink and black colour palette. Classic female body shapes inspire the pendants form. Her application of faux leather and elements taken from lingerie add a modern edge to the classic use of traditional textile techniques.
