Music fans to show their metal

Fans of heavy metal music will be rocking up to Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery next week and learning traditional soldering, casting and cutting techniques to produce a piece of jewellery inspired by metal music.

The free evening workshops kick off on Wednesday 15 May and run until Wednesday 12 June, when produced works will be displayed at the MAC Birmingham ‘Show Your Metal’ exhibition.

Dauvit Alexander teaches Jewellery and Silversmithing at Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery and will be delivering the weekly two-hour workshops, whilst showing examples of his own work inspired by culture and symbols associated with metal and rock.

Acknowledged as the home of heavy metal music, Birmingham has spawned pioneers of the music genre including Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath who celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.
