Eight students studying BA (Hons) Horology at the School of Jewellery have each received £1,000 to help with the cost of their study. The money comes from funding received through the National Express Foundation.
The Horology course was selected for the funding after submitting a bid highlighting the need for watch and clock makers to be supported. The money each student has received will help them with the costs involved in the course, such as equipment and resources, and gives them the ability to fulfil their ambitions for final year projects.
The National Express Foundation were extremely interested in supporting the Horology students and have given enough funding for three years. The scholarship awarded each Horology student with certain requirements, £750 for tools and £250 for maintenance, a total scholarship of £1,000. The remaining funds will be used to attract and support prospective students that are in a similar situation.
The National Express Foundation is part of the National Express Group and shares the primary objective of supporting the wider community in which they operate. Since the Foundation launched in 2012, they have been working to tackle the disturbances involved in young people, in particular between 15 – 24 years old through physical support or monetary grants.
Sharon Atkinson, Student Finance Advisor in Student Affairs at Birmingham City University, applied for the funding said;
