David qualified as an Operating Department Assistant in 1984 and following 16 years clinical experience gained at City Hospital (formerly Dudley Road), he moved into Operating Department Practice education. Initially, David was tutoring students at the Centre for Operating Department Practice Education, West Lodge, Selly Oak Hospital Birmingham, the largest provider of ODP education in the UK, before moving into Higher Education. 

In 2002, with the commencement of the Diploma in Higher Education in Operating Department Practice, DipHE, ODP, the centre moved to Birmingham City University (formerly University of Central England) to deliver the first ODP Diploma course to student group DPC01. In 2015 Birmingham City University won the tender to deliver the first BSc (Hons) in Operating Dept. Practice course in the West Midlands area. David is presently a member of a very experienced and committed team of tutors involved in delivering the BSc & Diploma in Higher Education, Operating Department Practice and a number of Perioperative Pathway, Learning Beyond Registration modules.

To date, David has had the pleasure to be involved in the assessing/teaching and tutoring of approximately 2000 ODP/ Paramedic/ Nursing & Midwifery students at Foundation, Pre and Post registration levels.
