Simulations for Summative Invigilated Assessment

This project is exploring the use of online simulations as a mode of invigilated summative assessment. Using simulations in this way can promote contextualised assessments that are more aligned to the skills and competencies that students are required to gain prior to the placements and professional roles they are preparing for. Skills such as information finding, decision making and prioritisation can all be assessed using online simulations: forms of knowledge that are very difficult to assess using more traditional methods.

There are also huge efficiencies that can be gained by using an assessment mode that provides automated marking and immediate feedback, freeing space, for example, for staff to engage in smaller group teaching, enhanced pastoral support and personal development.

Whether used as a sole assessment mode or part of a more varied assessment technique, such as a station within an OSCE, the use of online simulations as a summative assessment tool is a high priority for OSIME.
