Sam completed his first undergraduate degree at The University of Central Lancashire studying BSc (Hons) in Fire and Leadership Studies. Soon after graduating he started with West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust as a Student Paramedic where he completed by Associate Ambulance Practitioner qualification and by Emergency Blue Light Driving qualification. Sam completed his DipHe in Paramedic Science at Coventry University in 2018 allowing him to join the HCPC register as a qualified Paramedic.

Since qualifying Sam completed his BSC (Hons) top up part time over a 2 year period with Coventry University in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care and a 1 Day Mentoring course by Staffordshire University.

During his time with West Midlands Ambulance Service, Sam primarily worked on emergency ambulances responding to emergency calls and referrals. He gained a broad range of experience working in the North and South of Birmingham, being a member of the Special Operations Response Team, as a mentor and 2 secondments within the Emergency Operations Control room.

Sam joined Birmingham City University in December 2021, looking for a new challenge and opportunities to progress his knowledge and teaching ability. He currently leads our level 4 and level 5 Practical skills modules and level 4 Professional Practice.
