How did you hear about the role of student ambassador?
I received an email advertising for ambassadors to help at university events. It looked like a great opportunity, so I followed the application process outlined in the email.
When did you become a student ambassador?
I was in first year of university when I found out about the role, but I started working as an ambassador in my second year.
What was the application process like?
I remember finding it relatively easy to apply for the role. I had to fill in a google form with my details and answer some questions relating to the role and its expectations. I was then invited to attend an induction/training session to help prepare me for the role.
What kind of opportunities have you had as a student ambassador?
I would say that my favourite part about the role is being able to give prospective students a realistic glimpse into life at BCU as you are currently experiencing it. Anyone can read about a university in a brochure but being able to physically ask questions to current students is a very valuable thing to have, in my opinion.
I've been able to talk to potential students thinking about studying my course (BSc (Hons) Music Technology) about my experiences and it has really helped to inform their decisions on where they want to study.
What have you learnt from taking on this role? Has it benefitted you in any way?
During my time within this role, I have really been able to hone my communication and organisation skills, from leading accommodation tours to answering course related questions at open days. All of it has really enriched my ability to communicate with others in a professional manner.
What would you say to students who are interested in becoming a student ambassador?
Don't miss the opportunity! Not only is it a paid role that fits around your studies, it is a great way to make new friends and to meet new people!
