Dorothy Boatswain

Dorothy worked for the London Borough of Camden as a generic social worker in the late 1980s. During the 1990s, she worked for Birmingham City Council in what was then the Older Adults team before joining the Social Work and Social Care Department at Bournville College of Further Education as a lecturer.

In the mid-1990s, Dorothy set up her own training consultancy before joining Birmingham City University (then UCE) as a visiting lecturer and was appointed as a permanent, part-time member of staff by the renowned social work writer and academic Dr Mark Doel in 2001.

She has worked in the Department of Practice Learning for a number of years where she was responsible for practice learning and development and joined the Social Work Department in the summer of 2014. Her substantial role still revolves around practice learning and development but she is a personal tutor and is also involved in teaching across a number of modules on the Social Work degree.
