Alex at Xerox
Alex Fogg undertook a placement year with Xerox as Web Developer and Business Analyst. He was involved in maintaining and developing new and existing websites, and maintaining and updating scripts for the company’s various websites. When he finished his placement, Xerox asked him to stay on for a couple of extra months as a contractor.
“I chose to undertake a placement year because I wanted to develop my skills, get experience, and be more work-ready when I graduate.
“It was a very steep learning curve – I didn’t know all of the programming languages I needed to use and had to teach myself. This really helped my independence and adaptability.
“I think the placement experience has helped me academically as well as professionally. I am much better at problem-solving and am more self-sufficient, which is helping with my final year studies. I have also learnt new coding languages, and am much better at managing my time and prioritising tasks – skills which are useful in my academic studies as well as my future career.
