Want to qualify professionally with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development? Study an International Human Resource Management course at a fully-accredited CIPD centre with Birmingham City Business School.
Our Postgraduate Diploma in International Human Resource Management programme is ideal if you want to qualify professionally with the CIPD.
If you wish to engage with this course part-time, the modules will run in the afternoon and evening over two years for the PG Diploma in International HRM stage, with an additional optional third year (part-time) for the MA in International HRM. For some sessions, full-time and part-time cohorts will be taught together, allowing you to the opportunity to share experiences with both UK-based and international students to incorporate a global perspective to HR issues.
By successfully completing the course part-time you will meet the requirements of the CIPD Profession Map and its core knowledge and behaviour standards at chartered level membership.
What's covered in this course?
We have an experienced teaching team who combine real work experience of human resource management with the academic qualifications, bringing a strategic and conceptual view to the topics covered.
Sessions are interactive and we invite guest speakers, encourage you to work together on case studies, and incorporate role-playing activities to develop practical HR skills. Where appropriate to the individual topics covered during the course, implications for sustainability will be identified that relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to complete this course a student must successfully complete all the following CORE modules (totalling 120 credits):
This module aims to enable you to appreciate and evaluate the external factors that impact on an organisations and the HR function. You will develop skills to analyse the changes in the business context and respond to these through strategic HR planning with consideration for the commercial business environment and people management practice.
This module encourages you to critically explore contemporary research and practice regarding managing people in organisations, including employee engagement, performance and development and managing change. You will gain a critical understanding of how to manage people within the workplace in a fair and effective way for optimum performance
The one constant in the workplace is change. The requirement of HR to meet the needs of the Organisation from a Human Capital perspective is ever evolving. The challenge of different work patterns, the emergence of new working practices in the wake of the pandemic and variation of support needs required by our teams as a result of this will demand more from the HR Professional. The need to adopt innovation and creativity in finding ways to meet the aspirations of a diverse team whilst delivering the key commercial metrics of the business has never been more daunting.
This module addresses the emerging complexity of managing and leading expatriates in various contexts by exploring past and present thinking on international imperatives and issues in Human Resources Management (HRM). In particular, this module aims to develop your understanding of the impact of globalisation on HRM and introduce various strategic issues and practices that need to be addressed in managing an international workforce.
In studying this module you will develop your understanding of how business strategy and strategic change translates to people practice. Using business simulations this module will allow you to experience how businesses respond and adapt to changes and what the people profession can do to support them.
This module is designed to provide you with a solid underpinning of the process of research and is keenly focussed on the connection between research and practice. The module takes you through the stages of research from the formulation of a research problem and a research question, through to understanding the essential research philosophy issues, producing a literature review, and developing appropriate methods to the field of The People Profession. The module further examines the key ways in which data is gathered and analysed. Throughout its duration, the module considers the difficulties encountered including ethical issues in conducting research and ways to address those. It also explores the centrality of the influence of the researchers own predisposition on the process and the final outcome.

Employability
Enhancing employability skills
The course is designed around the skills and competencies required to become a professional HRM practitioner. A core module of the course is called Developing Skills for Business Leadership, and covers the skills and competencies specified by the CIPD.
You will be able to participate in practical, work relevant activities such as conducting a negotiation with an employee representative, holding a grievance and disciplinary interview with a member of staff, selection interviews and many more skills-based sessions.
The course is closely tied into the CIPD profession map, which has been developed by consideration of what the leading experts working in HRM need to know and understand to contribute effectively to the performance of their organisations.

This course is based at our City Centre Campus – and specifically The Curzon Building, alongside other Social Sciences, Law and Business students.
The £63m building offers students a unique social learning space, including a dedicated student hub incorporating student support services, in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside development.
The Business floors house an extensive number of IT facilities, breakout areas, and specialised rooms. The Marketing Link Agency is designed to replicate a modern marketing firm, allowing students to get real-life experience of working in the marketing sector. There is also the City Trading Room, which features state of the art stock market tracking equipment, keeping you up to date with all the financial comings and goings of the London Stock Exchange and Wall Street.
The Curzon building is also conveniently close to Birmingham’s business and financial centre, allowing for strong links between your studies and the real world.
