Department Q&A sessions

Music Technology

Taught by a range of leading industry professionals, you will be surrounded by performers, composers and researchers of the very highest quality from across an array of musical disciplines.

Guitar

Guitar tuition is designed to equip you with all the skills required to enter the music profession. You’ll cover a broad spectrum of repertoire, complemented by masterclasses with visiting artists.

Organ

Led by internationally-acclaimed organist and tutor Daniel Moult, as well as other stellar staff, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire enjoys a reputation as a leading European centre for organ studies.

Composition

Through individual tuition and small classes you will develop an understanding of differing compositional styles, particularly contemporary art music, pop, jazz and fusion, experimental and conceptual music.

Jazz "Jam session" (meet the students)

The Jazz Department’s aim is to create a stimulating and inspiring culture for jazz musicians. We place a great deal of emphasis on artistic exchange between students and staff.

Recorder and Historical Performance

The Historical Performance Department shares many projects with the Recorder Department. You’ll have the opportunity to study a period instrument or to have stylistic awareness lessons with specialist tutors.

Percussion

Our syllabus is carefully designed to cover everything from classical to commercial, contemporary to rock and pop, Cuban to folk, ballet to opera and outreach to solo percussion.

Harp

Principal Harp Tutor, Rita Schindler, gives a weekly lesson to all first study harpists and works with each student to devise a stylised course, ensuring a progressive range of techniques are mastered.

Welcome to one of Europe’s most distinguished Keyboard Departments, where students thrive in a busy environment full of events, classes, concerts and opportunities.

The Saxophone Department’s syllabus is broad-based and ideally suited to those performers wishing to pursue a freelance career. We put great emphasis on versatility and adaptability in performance.

Folk Ensemble

The Folk Ensemble’s energetic and powerful live sets are a sight to behold, featuring an 18-piece horn section, five cellists, seven percussionists and five electric guitarists, plus fiddles, flutes, clarinets, euphonium, and accordions!
