  • Welcome to the RBC Virtual Open Day
Shirley Thompson: [00:00:09] Hello and welcome to this Virtual Open Day at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. My name’s Shirley Thompson, Interim Principal at the Conservatoire and I’m delighted that you've chosen to attend today. In normal circumstances our Open Days are vibrant, busy events that give a real sense of what it’s like to be a student at RBC. But while we can't do this one in person, we hope you’ll find it just as full, informative and lively as if we were all here in this wonderful building. Not only will you be hearing from my colleagues today, but we also have many students involved in the sessions. This gives you a golden opportunity to ask first-hand what it’s like to study here. Enjoy your day with us. [00:00:53] Simon Hall: [00:00:55] Hello, a very warm welcome to you. My name is Simon Hall and I’m Interim Vice Principal for Music at RBC. Whether you are considering joining us at undergraduate or postgraduate level, our aim is to ensure you are employable as a professional musician by the end of your time with us. Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will help you achieve this by combining your principal study tuition with a range of supporting work to develop your wider musical skills. I very much hope you enjoy our Virtual Open Day and I really look forward to the prospect of welcoming you in person at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire very soon. [00:01:33] Stephen Simms: [00:01:34] My name is Stephen Simms. I am the Vice Principal of the Conservatoire and Head of the School of Acting. So if you're interested in acting at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level you'll find we have an array of courses there. We have Applied Theatre at BA which is something for those of you who are interested in making theatre for a very specific audience or community. We have Stage Management if you're interested in behind the scenes and how a show is put together and put on. We also have a postgraduate degree in Professional Voice Practice. My real hope is that one day I may meet some of you in real life face to face and see how you're getting on. But I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find this an informative and useful day. Thank you. [00:02:32]
